Job Summary:

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is seeking a dedicated and proactive Safety & Health (SHEQ) Officer to join our Site Operations team. The role is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, environmental, and quality management across operational sites. The SHEQ Officer will drive compliance with legislation, internal policies, and best practices, fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence. This is a hands-on role that requires strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills to manage risks and support continuous improvement in site safety performance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, monitor, and maintain SHEQ management systems in accordance with company policies and relevant legislation.

  • Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and site inspections to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventive measures.

  • Develop and deliver safety and health training programs for site personnel.

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.

  • Support project teams and operational managers in identifying potential safety, environmental, and quality risks.

  • Maintain accurate SHEQ records and generate performance reports for management review.

  • Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, communication, and awareness campaigns.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • National Diploma or Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Certification in SHEQ management, ISO standards, or equivalent safety qualifications is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of South African occupational health and safety legislation and environmental regulations.

  • Proficient in risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety auditing techniques.

  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) role within industrial, construction, or operational environments.

  • Experience in implementing safety management systems and compliance monitoring.

  • Proven track record in accident investigation, risk management, and safety training.


Working Hours:

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday, with occasional extended hours based on operational requirements.

  • Willingness to travel to operational sites as needed.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of SHEQ legislation, regulations, and best practices.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute safety initiatives effectively.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SHEQ-related software applications.

  • Strong decision-making skills under pressure with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
