The Tool Rental Associate – Repair & Rental plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service while supporting the operation of Home Depots Tool Rental Center. This position is responsible for assisting customers with tool and equipment rentals, ensuring tools are safe, clean, and fully functional, and performing basic maintenance and minor repairs. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, mechanically inclined, and committed to maintaining high safety and service standards in a fast-paced retail environment.
Greet customers professionally and assist them in selecting appropriate tools and equipment for their projects
Explain rental terms, proper tool usage, safety guidelines, and return procedures clearly
Inspect tools and equipment before and after rentals to ensure functionality and safety
Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on rental equipment
Accurately process rental transactions, contracts, and returns using in-store systems
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe Tool Rental area
Identify damaged or unsafe equipment and escalate major repair needs when required
Adhere strictly to company safety policies, operational procedures, and loss-prevention practices
Support inventory control, including tagging, tracking, and storage of rental tools
Collaborate with store associates and supervisors to meet customer needs efficiently
Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment repair processes
Ability to follow safety protocols and operational procedures consistently
Comfortable using computers, POS systems, and rental management software
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment
Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented mindset
Previous experience in retail, equipment rental, tool repair, or maintenance is preferred
Hands-on experience with power tools, machinery, or construction equipment is an advantage
