Job Summary

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is seeking a dynamic and experienced Production Manager to lead our Transformer & Switchgear Services division. The successful candidate will oversee production processes, ensure operational excellence, and drive efficiency across manufacturing, testing, and maintenance activities. This role requires a strategic leader who can balance technical expertise with people management, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality electrical equipment while maintaining safety and compliance standards.

The Production Manager will play a key role in supporting Eskoms mission to provide reliable and sustainable electricity, contributing to both operational performance and organizational growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate all aspects of production for transformer and switchgear manufacturing and servicing.

  • Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer requirements and internal performance targets.

  • Monitor production metrics and KPIs, driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.

  • Ensure compliance with Eskoms quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and maintenance teams to optimize production processes and resource allocation.

  • Mentor and develop a high-performing production team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Manage production budgets, cost control, and resource planning to maximize operational efficiency.

  • Lead problem-solving efforts to resolve technical issues, production bottlenecks, and workflow challenges.

  • Prepare regular production reports for senior management and contribute to strategic planning initiatives.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Professional certification in project or production management is an advantage (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing).

  • Strong understanding of transformer and switchgear manufacturing, maintenance, and repair processes.

  • Proficiency in production management software, ERP systems, and reporting tools.

  • Excellent leadership, team management, and organizational skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across teams.


Experience

  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in production or operations management within the electrical engineering or heavy industrial sector.

  • Proven track record of leading production teams in transformer and switchgear manufacturing or service environments.

  • Experience implementing lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and process optimization initiatives.


Working Hours

  • Full-time position with standard working hours; flexibility required to manage production deadlines and emergencies.

  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet project targets or operational demands.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong technical knowledge of transformers, switchgear, and associated electrical systems.

  • Ability to analyze production data and implement process improvements.

  • Proficiency in budgeting, resource planning, and cost management.

  • Leadership presence with the ability to motivate, inspire, and develop team members.
