Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the Eskom Technician in Training program and complete all assigned technical modules.

• Assist with the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of heavy current electrical systems, including high‑voltage and low‑voltage equipment.

• Conduct routine inspections and testing of electrical machinery to ensure reliability and safety compliance.

• Support fault‑finding and corrective maintenance activities under supervision.

• Record and report technical findings, work progress, and anomalies to supervisors.

• Adhere strictly to Eskom safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Engage in continuous learning and demonstrate progress toward competency milestones.

• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to project goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science; additional technical subjects advantageous.

• Completed technical diploma, trade certificate, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred (but not mandatory for all TIT intakes).

• Basic understanding of electrical principles and heavy current systems.

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to interpret technical documentation and schematics.

• Proficiency in using basic hand tools and testing equipment.

• Willingness to work outdoors and in varied environmental conditions.

Experience

• Entry‑level role; minimal formal work experience required.

• Prior technical internships, apprenticeships, or practical training in electrical environments is an advantage.

• Demonstrated interest in electrical engineering or heavy current systems through projects, coursework, or practical exposure.

Working Hours

• Standard working hours are typically Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, or overtime may be required depending on operational demands and training schedules.

• On‑call duties may be part of the role during certain deployment phases.
