Job Summary

The Officer: Environmental Management – Generation H/O at Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd plays a critical role in supporting environmental stewardship across Eskoms generation operations. This position ensures compliance with environmental legislation, corporate environmental standards, and sustainability objectives. The incumbent will work closely with cross-functional teams to monitor environmental performance, implement mitigation measures, and drive continuous improvement in environmental management practices at power stations and generation facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental management systems aligned with national regulations and ISO standards.

  • Conduct environmental risk assessments, audits, and inspections at generation facilities to ensure regulatory compliance and identify areas for improvement.

  • Monitor environmental performance, compile data, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities.

  • Coordinate corrective actions and mitigation plans in response to environmental incidents or audit findings.

  • Provide environmental guidance and training to operational teams to promote awareness and best practices.

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of environmental permits, licenses, and compliance documentation.

  • Participate in community engagement initiatives related to environmental management and sustainability projects.

  • Support the implementation of environmental awareness campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to the power generation industry.

  • Understanding of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and risk assessment methodologies.

  • Strong report writing, analytical, and data interpretation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and environmental tracking tools.


Experience

  • At least 2–4 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within energy, utility, or industrial sectors.

  • Experience conducting environmental audits, compliance monitoring, or environmental impact assessments is highly advantageous.

  • Previous exposure to environmental permit application processes and stakeholder engagement activities.


Working Hours

  • Standard full-time hours as per Eskoms organizational policies.

  • Flexibility to work extended hours or attend site visits on short notice based on operational demands.

  • Excellent understanding of environmental legislation and compliance frameworks applicable to power generation.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
