Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Artisan Fitter and Turner to join our Distribution division. This role involves the maintenance, repair, and fabrication of mechanical components, ensuring that Eskoms electrical infrastructure operates efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in fitting, turning, and machining equipment, with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and teamwork.
Perform fitting, turning, and machining of metal components using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other workshop equipment.
Conduct maintenance and repair of Eskom distribution equipment and mechanical assemblies.
Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and schematics accurately.
Fabricate, assemble, and align mechanical components to meet operational requirements.
Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, quality standards, and Eskom policies.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, and fabrication projects.
Collaborate with other artisans, engineers, and technicians to complete projects efficiently.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize mechanical processes and equipment reliability.
Trade Test Certificate in Fitting and Turning or equivalent recognized qualification.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment used in a utility or industrial environment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
Skilled in operating lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other mechanical fabrication tools.
Proficiency in precision measurement tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and gauges.
Sound understanding of safety standards and best practices in mechanical work.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in fitting, turning, or mechanical maintenance, preferably in the energy, utilities, or industrial sector.
Experience in distribution or electrical utility environments is advantageous.
Full-time position with standard Eskom working hours.
Flexibility may be required for emergency maintenance, on-call duties, or shift work.
Strong technical aptitude in mechanical maintenance and fabrication.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
