Job Summary

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, South Africas leading electricity utility, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Middle Manager for its Engineering Group at the Medupi Power Station. This pivotal role involves overseeing engineering operations, driving technical excellence, and ensuring that all engineering activities align with Eskoms safety, quality, and operational standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a complex, high-stakes environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Oversee the planning, execution, and optimization of engineering projects, ensuring alignment with operational goals and timelines.

• Ensure compliance with all Eskom policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards, promoting a zero-harm work environment.

• Monitor engineering performance metrics and develop strategies for performance improvement and operational efficiency.

• Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to resolve technical challenges, optimize plant performance, and implement innovative solutions.

• Prepare and manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and procurement for engineering activities.

• Mentor and develop junior engineers, providing guidance on career growth and technical competencies.

• Drive the implementation of best practices, engineering standards, and technical documentation across the engineering group.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering; a Masters degree is an advantage.

• Professional Engineering registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) preferred.

• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Proven project management capabilities, including planning, budgeting, and execution.

• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed, data-driven decisions.

• Advanced knowledge of power generation systems, plant operations, and industrial engineering principles.

Experience

• Minimum of 8–10 years of relevant engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years in a management or supervisory role within the power generation or heavy industrial sector.

• Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex engineering projects.

• Exposure to operational performance optimization, plant maintenance strategies, and risk management is highly desirable.

Working Hours

• Full-time position with standard plant operational hours.

• Must be flexible to work extended hours, including weekends or emergency call-outs, depending on operational needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong understanding of engineering design principles, plant operations, and maintenance processes.

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, reports, and engineering specifications.

• Skilled in performance analysis, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement methodologies.

• Exceptional leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.

• Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proficiency in engineering software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office suite.
