As a Senior Technician: Secondary Plant (Protection) at Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the secondary electrical protection systems supporting the national transmission grid are operated and maintained safely, reliably, and according to strict technical standards. You will be responsible for protection system integrity, fault investigation, performance enhancement and supporting continuity of supply in line with organizational and regional objectives.
Perform planned maintenance, commissioning, and breakdown maintenance activities on secondary plant protection systems.
Conduct performance enhancement tasks and detailed fault investigations to maintain high system reliability.
Execute system audits and assessments to ensure compliance with Eskoms operational standards and statutory requirements.
Produce and manage technical reports, documentation, and administrative records accurately.
Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to coordinate maintenance and calibration tasks.
Mentor and coach junior technicians to develop skills and propagate best practices across the team.
Apply Eskoms safety, health, quality and environmental procedures during all activities.
Educational Qualification: National Diploma / National N Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field (NQF 6 with 240 credits) or equivalent technical qualification.
Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of secondary plant protection systems, electrical networks, relevant software (e.g., SAP PM, TWS, FALLS, LLS, TXSIS), and operational technology.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to diagnose protection system issues and recommend technically sound solutions.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder coordination.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications and OT tools relevant to system protection and maintenance.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant technical experience in secondary plant protection, power systems maintenance, or equivalent engineering environment.
Prior exposure to protective relay systems, fault analysis, and field service maintenance is highly desirable.
Full-time position (standard operational hours), with the possibility of on-call duties, extended hours, or emergency responses as needed to support grid operations and critical maintenance work.
